Prism civil and structural engineering website

16-07-2007

Prism civil and structural engineering Consultants chose Digital solutions to redesign their website, the task required close co ordination with Prisms’s PR Company to make sure the site had the right feel and gave a unified image with all other marketing initiatives.

Prism also wanted an end user news article upload feature (ability of users to upload new articles direct to site with no IT support intervention) so a CRM based package was used, in this case Joomla was chosen as this gives all the necessary functionality and ease of use.

The site can be found here: Prism civil and structural engineeering

Prism inter office connectivity

Additional office in Bath needed to have full network access to the main data store as well as email functionality with same domain name and user roaming. We setup a VPN tunnel between offices utilizing a new SDSL line and added a secondary domain controller in the remote office. DFS (distributed file system) is used to replicate files between sites (certain shared folders are instantly replicated between sites when changes are made to files etc). Also added a secondary Exchange server for local mailbox’s, and set public folder stores to replicate between sites.

VA office move

Digital Solutions have been given the task of moving all of Vearncombe associates IT infrastructure to a different office in the same complex where they are currently situated.

This involves the provision of a new ADSL (Broadband) line, wireless access point and security configuration along with temporary file storage allowing the move to take place in phases with very little down time.

This is scheduled to take place early in the New Year.

VA network overhaul

We were given the task of bringing Vearncombe Associates old network (Windows NT based server and XP clients) into the 21st century. This upgrade was centered around Microsoft Small Business Server 2003 and involved moving all emails from the old server (Vpop3) to new exchange based mailbox’s, replacing old poorly designed cabling with CAT6 and gigabit switches and fully setting up all client machines and user accounts.

The new network now includes personal user files backups (my documents and desktop), centralized email system with spam filtering and daily backups along with monitoring full hardware redundancy.

Shared managed office project

We are currently in the design and planning phase of a project which will enable a prospective client to turn some sizable old office space they own into smaller fully managed offices for leasing out to tennants.

All offices will be fully networked in a true 'plug and play' style for new tennants who will not need to worry about internet connections, network security or printing and photocopying availability, which imposed some highly technical challenges.

The reasearch we have put into this project has given us incredible insight into the managed office sector and the extra care needed when planning such an enviroment which we are looking further into as more and more smaller companies look for a more managed low cost solution to leasing.
